Landfill Harmonic Documentary Film—Trash into Music

April 30 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

THOSE INSTRUMENTS ARE TRASH!

The Hopewell Valley Arts Council and the Pennington Public Library are bringing the documentary, Landfill Harmonic, to the Hopewell Valley for a special, free screening.

Landfill Harmonic follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage. As this group takes its inspiring spectacle of trash-into-music around the world, we follow the lives of a garbage picker, a music teacher and a group of children from a Paraguayan slum.

Landfill Harmonic is a beautiful story about the transformative power of music, which also highlights two vital issues of our times: poverty and waste.

The film will be shown at the Wesley Forum in the Kenneth Kai Tai Yen Humanities Bldg on the campus of The Pennington School. Special thanks to The Pennington School for their space.

After the film, recycled instrument artist and musician Russ Rice will demonstrate several of his creations and speak about his process.

Registration is optional but appreciated.

Email Kim Ha at the Pennington Library. Walk-ins are also welcome!

This screening is part of the Hopewell Valley Arts Council’s multiyear focus on Upcycling, the process of turning discarded items into art.
